Croatia / Town
Rovinj.
A different kind of Riviera.
An Istrian base for waterfront walks, thoughtful stays and an appetite for the surrounding region.

Rovinj works particularly well as a place to return to. Use the town as an anchor, then resist the urge to turn every day into a road trip. A few carefully chosen excursions will mean more than an itinerary that never leaves time for the waterfront.
Let the town set the pace
Begin with a walk through the old town and along the water. Notice the difference between a street that invites a quick pass and a place where you would happily spend an hour. An early visit, a later dinner and a slow walk back make a better shape for a day than constant movement. This is our editorial preference, not a promise of an uncrowded summer.
Stay for the way you want to live
Look beyond a hero photograph when comparing accommodation. Ask about the exact location, the room outlook, walking routes, parking and access. A property outside the centre may suit a restful stay; a central address may suit someone who values spontaneity. Confirm the relevant room category, not just the general hotel description.
Give Istria a place at the table
Build a day around a producer or a meal only after confirming an appointment or reservation. Do not assume that a winery or restaurant welcomes unscheduled visits. Choose one area, allow sensible transfer time and arrange a driver when appropriate. The point is to spend time with what you came to discover, rather than spend the afternoon collecting stops.
Carry less ambition into the evening
There is no need for every dinner to be a statement. Alternate a planned meal with something more informal, always checking that a venue is open during your stay. Our dining gateway leads to Adriatic Table for deeper restaurant discovery. The Journal remains an editorial starting point, not a live table inventory.
